Bloemfontein - Seven men have been arrested in connection with public violence at the Dinaweng township outside Bloemfontein.
Police spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi, says the suspects were arrested yesterday after violent protests over issues relating to service delivery erupted in the early morning hours.
Two minibusses were set alight and burned out completely. The ring road connecting the Dewetsdorp and the Reddersburg roads outside the city at Dinaweng were blocked with rocks while motorists were pelted with objects while using the road. No injuries were reported.
OFM News visited the area this morning where the situation seemed calm. However, the road was closed by Mangaung traffic officers who diverted traffic. According to a resident, the protests continued until late last night at around 22:00.
A motor vehicle was set alight. Hlubi says the suspects are expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
She says 13 cases of malicious damage and one case docket of public violence have been opened. No injuries were reported.
