Santaco does not want a taxi war─── REFILWE GAESWE 15:10 Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Bloemfontein - The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in the Free State urges their members to be cautious when they approach the Eastern Cape, as they don’t want a taxi war.
This follows two Free State roads entering into the Eastern Cape being blocked by taxis since this morning.
The road between Zastron and Sterkspruit and the route between Rouxville and Aliwal North are closed from the Eastern Cape’s side by the province’s taxi operators. According to Santaco’s Free State Chairperson, Daki Qumbu, a delegation of their members is in those areas to further investigate. He apologises to taxi passengers and highlights that they are also being inconvenienced.
“We hope that this situation will not last the whole day. We want to tell our drivers that they must take great caution on those two roads. Because, should they try to force their way into the Eastern Cape, they will land in trouble and their vehicles will get damaged. That is not what we want. We don’t want a taxi war for now.
"The taxi drivers from the Free State should just handle everything with caution and make sure that our passengers are always safe.”
