National department launches investigation into Masimong 4 Estate in Welkom | News Article

Welkom - Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has launched a forensic investigation into the Matjhabeng Local Municipality's multimillion rand housing project and its managing agent.

Residents of the Masimong 4 Estate – a low cost government housing estate in Welkom – have complained about the illegal eviction of occupants.

Sisulu said in reply to a written question that her department has already concluded a preliminary investigation which was conducted by its Legal Advisory Services and Rental Housing Development Units. She said the investigation included inputs from residents and Amohela Property Management, the municipality’s managing agent.

Sisulu said it was confirmed that Amohela sent conflicting accounts to occupants and the provincial Department of Human Settlements, and recommended that the matter be referred for forensic investigation.
