Six prisoners have escaped from Pollsmoor Prison in Tokai, Western Cape police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, said the inmates escaped around 23:25 on Sunday night.
They apparently escaped from the youth and juvenile section of the prison, according to media reports.
"Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated," he said.
