Durban Super Giants end dismal season on a high─── ILSE SMALBERGER 09:05 Sun, 02 Feb 2025
It was a nail-biting affair at the Wanderers on Saturday night, but the Durban Super Giants were victorious with an 11-run win over the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA20.
The men from Durban ended a season they would rather forget with a win in their final match of the series.
The hosts won the toss and elected to field first. The visitors started strongly with Matthew Breetzke (23 off 13) and Kane Williamson (22 off 20) setting the stage for Heinrich Klaassen, who smashed a magnificent 76 not out off 47 balls. In the process, Klaassen became the first batter to pass 1000 runs in Betway SA20. He was well supported by Wiaan Mulder (30 off 22) to take DSG to 173/4 in their 20 overs.

JSK’s Hardus Viljoen took two wickets in four overs, with Lutho Sipamla getting rid of Marcus Stoinis for a duck. Breetzke was run out by Moeen Ali.
The Super Kings’ batting innings never really got underway. They lost openers Leus du Plooy (7 off 6) and captain Faf du Plessis (14 off 9) within the first five overs. Devon Conway (21 off 24), Wihan Lubbe (0 off 2), Ali (14 off 13) and Sibonelo Makhanya (13 off 12) also failed to make an impression, but finally Donovan Ferreira dug in his hills to score 51 off 22. The tail-end, however, failed to support him and JSK ended by the DLS method on 135/9 in the 16th over.
‘Noor Ahmad was chosen as the Player of the Match’
For his excellent bowling, taking three wickets for 25 runs in his four overs, DSG’s Noor Ahmad was chosen as the Player of the Match. Dwaine Pretorius took two wickets in one over with Christoper King, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Wiaan Mulder each taking one.
After the final group stage match on Saturday night, JSK finished fourth on the log and will face third-placed Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the Eliminator at Centurion on Wednesday.
