“What we’ve been doing hasn’t been extravagant – we’ve done some special things as a squad, but I think it’s because we’ve been doing the boring things so well.”

The log-leading Paarl Royals will look to maintain their momentum in the SA20 when they face the Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers on Thursday.

This will be the first of two away games for the Royals to close out the group stages before the playoffs.

With their spot in the playoffs already secured, the pressure will be significantly less, but they are determined to finish at the top. Meanwhile, JSK remain in contention for the next stage and will come out all guns blazing.

The Royals have adapted exceptionally well to various conditions thrown at them, while also excelling at mastering the basics.

The in-form Royals batter from the North West Dragons, Rubin Hermann, told OFM Sport that it’s imperative to maintain their form and, at the same time, continue focusing on "the boring things” they do well. “We’ve had an awesome ability to adapt,” said Hermann.

“I think we've got a very strong squad that’s able to adapt to all conditions. We’ve got a squad we can select specifically for conditions, which is awesome to have.

‘Continue the momentum’

“Hopefully, we can continue the momentum because, like I said, winning is a habit. Hopefully, we can go into the playoffs with some momentum and secure another two wins under our belt.

“Keeping momentum is vital going into the playoffs – so yeah, we’re very excited for what lies ahead. I’m sure the guys will continue to play good cricket like we have.

“We’ve kept things very, very simple. I think David Miller said we’ve done the boring things very well. What we’ve been doing hasn’t been extravagant. We’ve done some special things as a squad, but I think it’s because we’ve been doing the boring things so well.

“The less glamorous things we’re nailing, and then, when we do the glamorous things, it counts even more, if that makes sense.”

Play at the Bullring in Johannesburg is scheduled to start at 17:30 on Thursday.
