England win in Benoni for the T20I series victory─── MORGAN PIEK 07:51 Thu, 28 Nov 2024
The England Women have won the T20 International series by beating the Proteas by 36 runs in Benoni on Wednesday.
The Lionesses claimed the series after winning the 1st T20I by four wickets at Buffalo Park on Sunday, and they sealed the deal on Wednesday night.
The English were asked to bat first at Willowmoore Park and scored 204/4 in their allotted 20 overs, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge scoring 78 and Nat Sciver-Brunt scoring an unbeaten 67. The captain, Heather Knight, contributed 26 runs.

In reply, the Proteas were restricted to 168/6 in their 20 overs, with De Klerk scoring an unbeaten 32 while Chloe Tryon added 30. Sarah Glenn was the pick of the English bowlers, claiming 4/20 in her four overs, while Sciver-Brunt and Charlie Dean each took a wicket as well.
Tryon said their lack of discipline with the ball let them down on the night, and they didn’t make full use of what the pitch in the East Rand had to offer. “I just feel like in the first innings, as a bowling unit, we weren’t hitting our straps,” said the all-rounder.
‘The margin for error is really small’
“We felt that we kept bowling to the fifth stump, and I think with world-class players like England has, especially Danni Wyatt-Hodge up front, we missed our margins. I know the margin for error is really small in Benoni with such a good wicket and a good outfield. As a bowling unit, we weren’t at our best today. That’s basically it.”
The 3rd and final match will be played on Saturday at SuperSport Park.
