The Free State cricketer, Annerie Dercksen, is relishing the opportunity to be training with the Proteas Women’s team at the High-Performance Centre in Pretoria ahead of their tour to Ireland and England.

Dercksen is the only player from the union who was invited to the national camp.

At 21-year-old Dercksen is one of the youngest players in the 27-member camp and she sees it as an opportunity to grow.

Dercksen told OFM Sport that at this stage her focus is not on being selected for the tour.

“I've been really honoured to be invited to the camp and to be completely honest, the thought of getting into that Ireland or England squad hasn't really crossed my mind.

“At the moment I'm just excited to get to learn from some of the best players in the country and seeing how things get done at that higher level.

“I'm just really excited for the opportunity to get to learn and maybe improve my game a little bit.”

The seasoned campaigners Suné Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Mignon du Preez, Laura Wolvaardt, and Shabnim Ismail will, however, miss the camp due to their participation in the FairBreak Invitational in Dubai.

The Proteas will face Ireland in three T20 and One-Day Internationals, and England in a once-off Test as well as three T20I’s and three ODI’s.
