Award-winning Northern Cape film to debut on television─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 10:39 Fri, 15 Nov 2024
A locally directed and produced film, “Liesbet”, will finally reach audiences across the country.
The “inspiring and moving” Afrikaans movie shot in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, has won five awards since being released in 2021.
“It took a very long time and took a lot of effort to finally get to this point,” said writer and director Eric Kok, expressing his gratitude to everyone who’s been a part of the project. “It wasn’t easy, but I’m very excited that our movie will be televised.”
The film will be broadcast on kykNET & kie, DStv channel 145, on Sunday (17/11) at 20:00.
Set in Roodepan, Liesbet follows the journey of a grandmother who strives for a better life. The film’s synopsis reads: “A resilient grandmother strives for her dream home. But when her estranged, drug-addicted daughter takes her grandchild away, she has to choose between her dream or saving her family.”

“It’s time to tell our own stories and I hope this film will resonate with audiences across South Africa, it’s a love letter to every Liesbet out there,” added Kok.
Kok also hoped the film would open many doors for the whole city – being a seed planted that will grow into something immensely great. “That will set a bar not only for us but for the rest of the Northern Cape so that the audiences out there can see that we are capable and are indeed diamonds in the rough.”
Kok Media recently released another film, Boeta Kom Huistoe, which was nominated at the Rustenburg Film Festival earlier this month for the best director.
