“The purpose of this ride is to bring awareness to Jayson’s case and to show support to the authorities who are investigating his killing tirelessly.”

No one has been arrested yet for the murder of the 28-year-old man from Kimberley, who was fatally shot in his driveway on Wednesday (31/7).

Jayson Afriqué (28) was a passionate biker, deeply involved with his bike club, the CC Riders. The CC Riders are organising a “Justice for Jayson Awareness Ride” on Saturday (24/8) and they invite everyone – with two wheels, four wheels, or even on foot – to join.

“The purpose of this ride is to bring awareness to Jayson’s case and to show support to the authorities who are investigating his killing tirelessly. We want those responsible to be apprehended and brought to justice,” said Mike Muller, a member of the Kimberley CC Riders.

The CC Riders will gather at 13:00 at the Kimberley train station and depart around 13:30. The route will be communicated to all participants when they meet.

The ride will only proceed through Kimberley and will conclude at the CC Riders clubhouse in West End. “Everyone is welcome, whether you come by car, bike, or scooter. Our goal is to mobilise people and raise awareness about the senseless violence in our society, where innocent people become targets for murderers, rapists, and robbers who have no regard for the lives and property of others.”

Mike Muller expressed how deeply Jayson is missed and noted it will take time for everyone to return to normal. “We deeply feel his absence, especially his usual seat in the clubhouse and his presence in the pack during rides.”

“Jayson was a vibrant, cheerful individual, always smiling and cracking jokes. That's what we miss the most about him – his presence. Whether in meetings, on rides, or during community operations, Jayson’s heartbeat was being there for others. That's what we miss the most about him.”

He says the community has full confidence that whoever was responsible for Jayson’s murder will face the full might of the law.

OFM News previously reported on Wednesday (31/7) at around 21:00, the victim and his wife were approached by an unknown man who fired several shots at them in their Toyota Hilux Bakkie, fatally wounding the husband.

“The victim and his spouse were at the gate entering into their townhouse complex when an unknown man allegedly approached and fired several shots into the vehicle,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergio Kock.

Apparently the couple, Jayson (28) and Micayla Afriqué (27), were followed to their home in New Park. He tried to shelter his wife from the shots fired at the car, which led to him being fatally injured.

All information will be treated confidentially. Police investigations are continuing.
