“The matter was reported to the Hawks, an entrapment was set and three officers were caught.”
Three North West police officers are expected in court after they allegedly bribed a suspect.
The complainant alleged the officers solicited bribes from him in order not to arrest him. The North West Hawks spokesperson, Tinyiko Mathebula, said three detectives aged 39, 44 and 48 allegedly demanded R6 000. The complainant was only able to pay R2 000.
It is further alleged that the officers later contacted him and demanded the outstanding amount. The matter was reported to the Hawks, an entrapment was set and three officers were caught soon after receiving R4 000 from the complainant.
Mathebula said they were arrested at a mall in Hebron on Monday (26/2).
The three police officers are facing charges of corruption and are expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (27/2).
