North West insurance killer to hear fate of bail application─── ZENANDE MPAME 07:00 Fri, 19 Jan 2024
“The accused is facing a charge of murder, two of fraud, and one of defeating the ends of justice.”
The case against the North West woman charged with murder and insurance fraud will continue on Friday (19/1) in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabatho for judgment on her bail application.
Agnes Setshwantsho appeared in court on Monday (15/1) for a continuation of her bail application, when judgment was reserved by the magistrate. The accused faces a charge of murder, two of fraud, and one of defeating the ends of justice.
“The matter was adjourned following the state’s closing remarks in a bid to persuade the court not to grant her bail, as we believe it is in the interest of justice for her to remain in custody until the matter is completed,” said North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

“Meanwhile investigations are still underway regarding the alleged death threats against the state witness as well as the investigating officer.”
Setshwantsho was arrested on Thursday 16 November after an operation led by police and an insurance company revealed that she allegedly murdered her relatives to benefit from insurance claims. She is alleged to be the beneficiary of 58 insurance policies through members of her extended family.
The state and the defence attorney completed their closing arguments, followed by a testimony by the investigating officer and the correctional nurse from the facility where Setshwantsho is detained.
