“The suspect has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.”
The Moqhaka mayoral committee member who’s accused of rape will appear in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (13/12) for a continuation of his bail application.
The case was postponed on Monday (11/12) after his formal bail application, said NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane. “The accused has appeared in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court where he officially applied for bail. He’s remanded in custody.”

The victim (22) allegedly requested a lift from the councillor in the early hours of Monday 4 December as she knows him. The suspect then drove to a farm in the district and raped her.
Rise Mzansi and the EFF attended the application on Monday (11/12). “We will be attending and monitoring this case,” said Fezile Dabi regional spokesperson April Motaung.

“This marks the suspect’s second appearance in court this year, following an arrest on Tuesday, 14 March for assault and contravening a court order. We are monitoring the ANC’s actions as timely justice is crucial for both the innocent and the guilty,” said DA Councillor Chris Dalton.
“The member of the mayoral committee’s alleged actions undermine the credibility of efforts to protect women and children in Moqhaka.”
