Another motion of confidence set to troubled Metsimaholo in Free State─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:44 Tue, 31 Oct 2023
The Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State is set to debate yet another motion of no confidence in less than a month.
The Sasolburg-based municipality has been rocked by several motions of no confidence this year. It has since emerged that the Metsimaholo Community Association has brought a motion against the mayor of another opposition party, Jack Malindi, and it was supported by the majority party in the council ANC.
It's alleged that the ANC, MCA, and African Transformation Movement want the African Independent Congress mayor to be removed as a mayor because he allegedly allowed EFF Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing, April Motaung, to issue out title deeds without the involvement of the party.
Municipal spokesperson, Gino Alberts, said the council could sit on 15 November to debate the motion against Malindi who took the reins from DA councillor Jeff Zwane.
Malindi was elected to replace Zwane who was ousted through a motion of no confidence brought by the EFF. On Friday, 22 councillors voted for the removal of Zwane and 12 voted against it.
OFM News previously reported Zwane was allegedly implicated that he interfered with the administration of the municipality and that he had a conflict of interest.
DA Provincial leader Roy Jankielsohn previously said Metsimaholo is being targeted by the ANC and EFF, not only to cover up previous plundering but also to facilitate more plundering to fund 2024 election campaigns. He said the threat of an ANC and EFF alliance, using candidates from smaller parties as a cover for this, is a real threat to national and provincial spheres of government in 2024.
