Community outcry after father allegedly rapes his one-month-old baby─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:59 Mon, 23 Oct 2023
“Such an unwarranted attack on a defenceless child at the hands of a father, who was supposed to love and protect her, points to the extent to which moral decay has permeated our society.”
North West residents have called on the courts to restore confidence in the criminal justice system following the alleged rape case of a one-month-old baby in Brits.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday (19/10) in Krokodildrift West outside Brits for allegedly raping his one-month-old daughter. It's understood the incident took place after the mother (27) of the baby left them inside a shack to cook outside.
The civil society-led organisation, Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM), in North West described the shocking incident as despicable and atrocious. The MRM provincial convenor, Pastor Lesiba Kgwele, slammed the infant's father.
“Such an unwarranted attack on a defenceless child at the hands of a father, who was supposed to love and protect her, points to the extent to which moral decay has permeated our society. We shudder to imagine the physical, psychological, and lifelong trauma that the victim robbed of her innocence had to endure.”
Kgwele said the courts must restore confidence in the criminal justice system before communities are fed up with such deplorable acts and take matters into their own hands. He also urged communities to unite and take action against the scourge of gender-based violence.
