A veld fire has ravaged through the bushes south of Bloemfontein, between the Brandkop Conservancy and the Brandkop Estate farm area.
About 30 men, including members of the civil movement AfriForum, Working on Fire, and Mangaung firefighters were called to attend to the fire. It started at about noon and most of it has been contained now.
Deon de Groot, a farmer and fire marshall, said despite the terrain which made it difficult for them to enter the woods, he was satisfied with the work done. De Groot said they will keep monitoring the fire until late tonight.
The fire was also burning close to the offices of Bloem Water's headquarters and staff members had to evacuate the premises.
De Groot mentioned that no residential houses needed to be evacuated.
