The alleged wrong-doing and irregularities at Free State Provincial Departments and one troubled local municipality are being probed by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

On Wednesday (26/7), the Head of the SIU, Adv. Andy Mothibi, told a packed President Hotel during its stakeholder event that they were investigating a variety of allegations at these departments and municipalities.

The departments in question are Human Settlements, Health, and the Premier's Office, including the cash-strapped Theunissen-based Masilonyana Municipality.

He says the Department of Health is being probed for the procurement or contracting of aeromedical services and patient transport services.

OFM News previously reported that the unit was also investigating the Office of the Premier.

The SIU has also made several referrals of its investigations to relevant authorities.

On Wednesday the SIU spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, said corruption continues to delay the work and progress in government.

”We are here not to investigate people. We're investigating processes, and processes will lead to people either being guilty or not. If we find that processes were not executed fairly, we will then deal with the issue. We as the SIU felt that we should visit the Free State as we have been visiting other parts of the country.”
