Six confirmed cases of cholera in the Free State─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 08:34 Mon, 22 May 2023
Six people in the Free State have tested positive for cholera after 76 visited clinics and hospitals with diarrheal infections.
The provincial spokesperson for the Department of Health, Mondli Mvambi, said the six people were successfully treated at the Parys Hospital and the Boitumelo Hospital in Kroonstad.
There have not been any cholera-related deaths in the province and all six who had tested positive have been discharged. The Outbreak Response Teams were activated in the province on 17 May 2023 after the first confirmed case.

The MEC responsible for the department, Mathabo Leeto, held a meeting with the relevant stakeholders to get an update on the interventions that have been put in place to curb the spread of diarrhoea and cholera in Vredefort and Parys, as well as the entire Free State. It has been explained that the teams working in Vredefort and Ngwathe are continuously monitoring water quality from all sources supplying water to the community.

Leeto has encouraged the community to adhere to all good hygiene practices by washing their hands regularly with soap and clean water; water must be boiled before drinking; vegetables and other foods must be washed beforehand.
