Municipality warns against illegal occupation of land─── 15:29 Mon, 20 Mar 2023
The Matlosana Municipality in North West has warned residents against the illegal occupation of stands in Jakaranda Extensions 11 and 12.
Mojafela Mosupa, Mayoral Committee Member for Planning and Human Settlements, received a letter of intent last Friday.
Mosupa said some residents claiming to be community leaders are trying to derail the work the municipality has done.
OFM News has seen a 2020 court order regarding the illegal invasions.
Speaking to OFM News, community leader Stone Sehuba said the municipality is wasting its time as the community is furious and prepared to occupy the land.
Sehuba said living conditions are bad as they don't have water or proper sanitation.
Although the municipality emphasised that significant progress has been made to register and allocate stands systematically, transparently, fairly and equitably, Sehuba said their verification list had many ghost names.
"We [will] lead residents to occupy the stands; the municipality knows very well [it's] failed us," said Sehuba.
Mosupa insisted the court order remained valid and enforceable, saying the municipality will act on any illegal occupation.
