Free State ANC recalls Mangaung mayor─── 06:11 Mon, 16 Jan 2023
The ANC in the Free State has recalled the Mangaung mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana, because it feels the metro needs "new leadership".
The cabinet placed the municipality under national administration last year after significant financial and service delivery challenges.
Now the provincial ANC has removed Mxolisi Siyonzana as mayor.
The ANC Interim Provincial Committee's convener, Mxolisi Dukwana, says that the National Executive Committee was not happy with the state of the organisation in the Mangaung Municipality and the quality of leadership.
"We were advised that it would be important to look into what is happening and advise the NEC.
"We did that, and realised we needed to bring about some changes. And those changes should not only be limited to the speaker, the mayor and the deputy speaker; they also have to do with the quality of the councillors that we have, as we have seen that most of the time, instead of focusing on service delivery issues and governance, it was more political and playing to the gallery than focusing on what was important.
"Therefore, we needed to put on some breaks and refocus."
