Calls to ban Pit Bulls gain momentum in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:00 Sun, 20 Nov 2022
The deputy mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State has called for the banning of Pit Bulls and other vicious dogs.
Mapaseka Nkoane said this during the funeral of 8-year-old Olebogeng Mosime who was attacked by his neighbour's Pit Bull at his home in Vista Park in Bloemfontein on 12 November 2022.
Whilst paying an emotional tribute at the funeral of Mosime, held at the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) on Friday 18 November, Nkoane lashed out at irresponsible dog owners. She said some people are protecting dogs that are vicious by calling them pets.

"We are the only country that is allowing Pit Bulls here in South Africa (sic). Other countries have banned them. Why can't we do the same? We are going to launch a campaign on Olebogeng," said Nkoane.
However, she said that dogs are not really problematic, but owners are the ones who do not know how to look after them.
"How do you own a dog when you are not even trained? How do you own a dog when you are not even paying a license to keep it, so that you have the guidelines or by-laws of how you should behave with that dog of yours?" Nkoana asked.
She concluded by stating that the metro will launch a campaign of banning Pit Bulls and other vicious dogs.
