The Bloemfontein-based Central University of Technology in the Free State has appointed a new Vice-Chancellor and Principal.

Prof. Pamela Dube is expected to start her new role as Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the institution on 1 January 2023. According to the institution's spokesperson, Seithati Semenokane, the current acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Alfred Ngowi, will continue in his leadership role at the university until the end of December 2022.

Central University of Technology students in Bloemfontein have had a few disputes with the management of the institution over how the institution is run.  Earlier this year, students held various protests against the alleged maladministration and a lack of student accommodation, amongst other issues.

Semenokane states that Prof. Dube brings vast knowledge and experience in the higher education sector, as she has demonstrated her ability to build partnerships and lead strategic engagements at various levels, including student leadership development support initiatives. Semenokane adds that Dube has also achieved academic excellence in addition to her substantive experience at the executive level. She further explains that Dube has also initiated effective relationship-building approaches with academic, governmental, and business partners, as well as public communications skills.
