The Free State Health Department reopened a clinic on Tuesday 27 September 2022 in Senekal, after it has been closed for six years.

Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi says the clinic was closed for renovations, as the infrastructure was dilapidated. He adds the clinic’s revitalisation process started in 2021.

Mvambi further explains that community members were not left stranded, as there was another clinic assisting during that period.

“You would know that the OR Tambo Clinic was opened in 2016 as part of the new location. Boitumelo Clinic was closed after the opening of the OR Tambo Clinic because we know that our clinics are old and some of them have not been fully capacitated to serve the public due to its old infrastructure. So this clinic was closed, and over time, the Department of Public Works enabled us to renovate it.”

Mvambi adds that they are delighted as a department to have this clinic, which serves a population of approximately 4 700 people in a community of an estimated 1 099 households, ready to enable access to healthcare services for the community of Senekal.

OFM News previously reported that more health facilities are being built in the Free State to improve the state of health care within the province.
