Water to slowly return to Bloemfontein taps after repairs─── 06:22 Thu, 08 Sep 2022
Water is expected to return to dry taps in affected areas of the Mangaung metro on Thursday 8 September 2022. after restorations of a burst pipeline earlier the week.
This after the completion of repairs on pipes that had burst on Monday at the Weldam mainline in Bloemfontein. The metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says the network of pipelines will be filled at a slow and steady pace to manage the water pressure.
He says the metro experienced recurring pipe bursts in the past when pipelines filled up too fast and with a high water pressure after repairs. Khedama adds that residents in low lying areas already started receiving water in their taps due to favourable topography, while the water in other areas may take some time to be restored.
"The municipality, together with Bloem Water, will continue with the interim plan of providing water tankers. Due to a shortage of trucks, there is a delay in attending to some of the affected areas. As a city we understand the inconvenience of water interruptions. We are doing our best to ensure a total restoration throughout the city."
