Free State mayor scrutinised over service delivery issues─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:00 Sun, 28 Aug 2022
The Matjhabeng Local Municipality's mayor in the Free State has been scrutinised by the opposition party for a misleading statement.
The Democratic Alliance's (DA) Matjhabeng caucus leader, Igor Scheurkogel, disputed the statement 'The president has seen and witnessed the good work that is being done by the executive mayor' made by the executive mayor, Thanduxolo Khalipha.
Scheurkogel says the statement is misleading and completely the opposite of the current state of municipal affairs. He adds that the party has been submitting questions to put pressure on the council sitting, to pressure the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to take accountability.
Scheurkogel alleges that each ward in Matjhabeng has raw sewage running down the streets or on resident's properties. He further adds that the entire municipality has a single serviceable TLB, a cherry picker, and an electrical circuit testing machine to serve the municipality.
According to Scheurkogel, a lack of equipment and maintenance has led to the collapse of infrastructure in Matjhabeng.
OFM News has sent questions to the office of the mayor in Matjhabeng Municipality and is awaiting a response.
