Mini-#Macufe for Free State artists─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 09:51 Thu, 25 Aug 2022
Local artists in the Free State are to experience a mini-Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) to showcase their talent.
The spokesperson from the Free State Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Tankiso Zola, explains that various artists will also be selected from this Macufe Homebrew programme to form part of the main Macufe Bloemfontein in October. The Homebrew programme is set to take place in different towns in the province, starting off at Kroonstad on 1-2 September, then moving to Welkom on 5 and 6 September.

The department has at this stage not selected a service provider yet to be awarded the Macufe tender. They are set to announce the company chosen to be the implementation agent for Macufe by the end of August.
TheMacufe Homebrew programme will also take place on 8 and 9 September in Trompsburg and Zastron; then in Ficksburg and Qwa-Qwa on 11 and 12 September; finishing off in Bloemfontein on 16 and 17 September.
The department - when previously refuting allegations of Macufe being cancelled - stated that a district auditions programme will be held, which has been revealed to be the Macufe Homebrew.
The MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture, Limakatso Mahasa, concludes that “the programme is not an isolated event from the broader arts and culture programmes that the department has been implementing throughout the years.
"The department continues to find ways to provide platforms for local artists to continue earning a living and showcase their talents whenever the environment allowed, even with challenges presented by the pandemic.
"We are delighted that local artists will, yet again, have an opportunity to continue to practice their craft on the main stage of Macufe”.
