Alleged corruption duo hand themselves over to Hawks─── 08:00 Mon, 01 Aug 2022
Two suspects who handed themselves over to the Hawks on Sunday, following an investigation regarding alleged corruption at the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality, are expected in court on Monday morning.
According to a statement, the municipality authorised a service provider for security services without a tender being advertised. It's further reported that irregular payments, with an estimated value of R58 million, were paid to the service provider for a period of two years. It is alleged that the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) wrote several letters to the Municipal Manager (MM), advising him to advertise the tender but he failed to do so.
The two suspects are expected to appear in the Phutaditjhaba Magistrate's Court Monday morning, on charges of fraud, corruption, uttering, forgery, and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act. According to the Hawks' spokesperson, Christopher Singo, more arrests are yet to be made as investigations continue.
