Pelonomi management, trade unions reach decision─── 12:19 Tue, 19 Jul 2022
The Free State Department of Health has reportedly requested three weeks to resolve issues regarding the treatment of psychiatric patients at the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital.
The department’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, told OFM News that a site was identified on Friday 15 July 2022 during a site inspection at the hospital.
Mvambi explained that there was a meeting on Friday between management and labour unions. He said the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) and the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) were present, but the Public Servants Association (PSA) and Health & Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) were absent, with no apology.
He explained that psychiatric patients will continue being treated in the M3 ward [medical ward] until the identified site is ready.
