#FarmAttack: Concern over lack of rural safety─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 05:50 Mon, 18 Jul 2022
The Democratic Alliance in the Free State has expressed concern over lack of rural safety units.
Speaking after the farm attack which left seven people dead, DA councillor in Thabo Mofutsanyane District, Bea Campbell-Cloete, said that mobilisation of maximum resources to find perpetrators is not enough to deal with real and urgent threats of heinous farm murders.
OFM News previously reported the farm owner had allegdely discovered seven bodies that were seemingly shot inside a farmhouse in Lismor, near Kestell in Free State.

Campbell-Cloete called for the re-establishment of Rural Safety Units. In a statement, Campbell-Cloete also adds that police staff shortages must also be dealt with urgently to ensure safety of farmers and farm workers. She says a clear and direct message has to be sent to perpetrators.
Campbell-Cloete said the party will engage with the Department of Community safety to ensure that the Rural Safety Unit in Kestell is re-established and also to ascertain what steps are being taken to ensure police have adequate resources to assist them with strengthening of rural safety in the area.

Meanwhile Ntombela applauded police for arresting two suspects who could possibly be linked to the Lismor farm murders outside Kestell. She further added that she had arranged counselling for the affected families.
