A third tragedy has struck the North West Department of Education within a space of a week, following another accident that claimed two lives of learners on the R34 road.
OFM News previously reported that two girls, aged 9- and 10-years-old, passed away and numerous others were left injured when their school bus overturned on the R34 road between Hoopstad and Bloemhof on Wednesday.

North West education spokesperson, Elias Malindi, says the department is saddened by the incident that occurred to learners from Bloemhof primary school. He said trauma debriefing and counselling were immediately administered to teachers and learners of Bloemhof primary school.

"As a department we are extremely devastated by accident which took two of our learners. I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I wish a speedy recovery to those who are still in hospital. This is a third accident within a space of a week," said Malindi.
He further said that the Department will continue to provide counselling with departmental wellness team, while the North Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela will be visiting the school and the accident scene on Thursday.

Meanwhile, OFM News previously reports a 45-year-old female teacher was gunned down outside Rutanang Primary school gate on Tuesday morning, while 36 learners from Agric Focus Combined in Christiana were left injured after the two buses that were transporting them collided.
