#Exclusive: ANC charges one of its own in Mangaung | News Article

The ANC's Interim Regional Committee (IRC) has reportedly slapped the Speaker of the troubled Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro with charges over allegations of defying the party mandate in council.

A letter shown to OFM News states that Stefanie Lockman-Naidoo was formally charged on 12 May on two counts.

She is alleged to have knowingly and intentionally defied the resolution of the ANC Caucus in council by allowing a motion to be debated in the house when it was supposed to have been referred to ANC structures in council.

Lockman-Naidoo has confirmed to OFM News that she had received a summons from the party and is in the process of consultations to respond in due course.

Lockman-Naidoo is expected to make representation at her disciplinary proceedings on 7 June. The ANC IRC spokesperson, Ncamisa Ngxangisa, refused to comment on the alleged charges against Lockman-Naidoo.

In January the Mangaung ANC's IRC announced Lockman-Naidoo’s suspension after she allegedly defied the order of the party not to allow a sitting which saw the former Acting City Manager, Sello More, removed from his office.

“There were allegations that there are people who are voting with opposition parties and other transgressions and we said these should be sent to our subcommittee that deals with disciplinary issues. So for now the subcommittee is busy with its work.  The nature of disciplinary proceedings is sub judice so we are still waiting for them and when they are finished doing their work they will report to us and it's only then that we will be able to give you comment,” Ngxangisa said.

The ANC's intended disciplinary proceedings against Lockman-Naidoo come days after reports that the ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) received a nod from ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, to axe troublesome members who cause division and factions within the party. However, ANC’s IPC spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, has since denied the claims and the reports.

“Yes, I’m in the process of consultations to respond in due course. This is a witch-hunt from factions in the ANC led by the convener and coordinator of the IRC,” Lockman-Naidoo adds.
