The Free State search and rescue team, as a significant part of the KwaZulu-Natal multidisciplinary search and rescue experts, have decided to shift the focus to recovering bodies, after admitting that it might now be impossible to find anyone alive.

The search and rescue experts and multidisciplinary experts from all over the country have been integrated to pursue the common mission of finding the mortal remains of missing persons in the floods that hit KZN.

Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, told OFM News that the Free State EMS team was deployed to KZN over the weekend and this included two highly specialised personnel.

Mvambi also adds that the official statistics of recovered bodies will be done by the official government structures responsible for this KZN Search and Rescue Mission. He says that the department will continue to share glimpses of the work done by Free State deployees on this mission, as they report successes in finding the mortal remains of those that were swept away by the floods.

Meanwhile, the North West government has also sent their search and rescue team to join the broader, multidisciplinary disaster management team in KZN on Wednesday.

KZN Premier Sihle Zikala has announced that the discovery of 5 more bodies brings the KZN floods death tally to 448.
