Motorists planning to travel on the N3 over the long weekend are advised to plan their trips and factor in the large traffic volumes that are expected.
The end of the first school term is coinciding with Monday's Human Rights Day holiday.
The N3 Toll Concession says traffic towards Durban should pick up from midday on Friday.
Operations Manager, Thania Dhoogra, is urging road users to exercise caution.
"In addition to increased traffic on the road, the South African Weather Service are forecasting severe thunderstorms and rainy weather along most parts of the route, which may result in difficult driving conditions.
"N3TC urges road users to please adjust their driving style to the prevailing conditions at the time and reminds them to always share the road responsibly.
"Turn on headlights, reduce speed and increase the following distance as required."
