#GBV cases in FS concerning after another murder─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:22 Tue, 08 Mar 2022

The issue of gender-based violence (GBV) continues to devastate the people of the Free State province.
This follows a recent incident where a husband allegedly set his wife alight in her car, and she later died after a lengthy stay in hospital. The Free State police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, says the police received a report of a 33-year-old woman who reportedly suffered serious burn wounds in her face and neck. She was admitted to a hospital in Bloemfontein on 28 January 2022. Covane says the woman later succumbed to her injuries and passed away on 24 February 2022. He says the police opened a case of murder at the Navalsig Police Station after receiving a report from the hospital.
According to Covane, investigations led to the arrest of the 36-year-old husband, who was arrested at his home in Glenmare Street, Olive Hill, Bloemfontein. He adds that the suspect appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Monday and his case was postponed to 14 March 2022 for a formal bail application.
Several people with placards demonstrated their support outside court for their deceased colleague from the Sport, Arts, and Culture department.
Covane says that the suspect remains in police custody.
