Victims of FS accident to be laid to rest─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:27 Sat, 05 Mar 2022
The Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, and Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, are on Saturday set to attend the funeral of four teachers, one school governing body (SGB) member, and one cleaner of Sekoko Primary School who died in a tragic road carnage.
The accident occurred last weekend.
Three out of the six people will be buried in Paul Roux outside Senekal on Saturday.
According to MEC Makgoe, five people - four females and one male - died on the scene whilst the sixth victim died in a hospital on Saturday last week.
Makgoe says they seek to convey a message of support to the families, fellow teachers, learners, and friends of the deceased in the hours of need.
"Out of the six people who passed on, three will be buried on Saturday 5 March 2022 at 08h00 at the Paul Roux Stadium. Four teachers, one SGB member, and one cleaner of Sekoko Primary School in Paul Roux died on 25 Friday 2022 at about 21:00, after a white 22 seater Mercedes Benz Sprinter minibus taxi overturned on the N5 road, about six kilometres from Bethlehem," Makgoe adds.
Seven sustained serious injuries and were transported to Dihlabeng Regional Hospital, Phekolong Hospital and Medi-Clinic.
They were driving back home from attending a workshop in Tweeling.
"We wish to convey our sincere condolences to the family and the entire school population. We are with them in our prayers during this difficult period of grief,” Makgoe further adds.
The department has since announced that teachers, parents and pupils have been offered counselling.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring province of North West, four people will be buried on Saturday after losing their lives in an accident when a minibus taxi collided with a truck on the R34 road between Bloemhof and Schweizer-Reneke.
