Centlec abandons power outage threats after ‘fruitful talks’─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:50 Thu, 03 Mar 2022
The Free State Provincial Government has reportedly managed to avoid massive blackouts at various government buildings.
The spokesperson of Mangaung Metro Municipality’s power utility, Centlec, has confirmed that the two parties on Thursday struck a deal to pay monies in arrears. Spokesperson Lele Mamatu said that the money owed to Centlec by the provincial government is more than R200 million. According to Mamatu, Centlec did institute power outages to some of the government buildings on Thursday but was restored after fruitful talks with the government.
Meanwhile, Sisi Ntombela’s spokesperson Sello Pietersen confirmed to OFM News that indeed there were talks between the metro’s power utility and the provincial government.
He said such matters, which include Centlec’s debt, were set to be further discussed in an ordinary Executive Council (Exco) sitting which also took place on Thursday.
