The MEC for Cooperative Governance (Cogta) and the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality Council will on Thursday appear in chambers in the Free State High Court.

The case relates to an urgent court case which was brought by MEC Mxolisi Dukwana against the Metro Council, following a decision to elect former Acting City Manager, Teboho Maine. OFM News previously reported that in a two-page judgment, Judge Chesiwe ordered that Maine must be interdicted from assuming any responsibilities in the office of the City Manager.

Judge Sharon Chesiwe looks likely to extend the court interdict against Maine whilst newly elected City Manager, Mzingisi Nkungwana, continues to execute his responsibilities as the acting city manager. It's also understood that the matter will likely be postponed to 28 April 2022 for further finalisation. This is a developing story.

Dukwana had brought an interdict against four respondents, including the Mangaung Metro Speaker Stefani Lockman, the Mangaung Council, and Maine.

OFM News previously reported that in February, the Directorate of Social Services' head, Nkungwana, was appointed as the new acting City Manager of Mangaung.

Nkungwana replaces Teboho Maine, who was earlier chosen by the council to act in the position of the City Manager and replace former manager, Sello More.

In January, OFM News reported that a source in the metro told OFM News that the motion to remove former City Manager More was an irregular one since More was just an accounting officer and not a politician in council.

The source further told OFM News that what the council should have done, was to write to More and issue a letter to suspend him, pending an investigation. They suspected that More was just used as a sacrificial lamb to settle a political score within the majority party in the council.
