The North West Education Department has taken steps towards addressing issues of substance abuse and bullying in schools.
Departmental spokesperson in North West, Elias Malindi, says that they conducted an intensive training to arm senior school management across the province. He tells OFM News the department held training with school principals, deputy principals, heads of departments and schools safety officers.
Malindi said the training covered the drug situation in schools within the province - such as the definition of drugs, signs and symptoms of drug usage, effects of drugs in schools, legal aspects of drug testing and training, and drug testing practicals.
"The national school safety framework training has been added since it is the umbrella under which all school safety programmes fall. This tool-kit covers school safety in a holistic manner and is approved by the Department of Basic Education as a guide for school safety in all South African schools," adds Malindi.
