The University of the Free State's (UFS) campus in Bloemfontein has been brought to a complete standstill on Wednesday.

Protesting students have managed to interrupt classes at the institution’s Bloemfontein campus as tensions rise over a plethora of issues, including registrations and mandatory vaccinations. Video footage is doing the rounds depicting police shooting stun grenades into the crowd.

OFM News has been reliably informed that some classes managed to take place earlier in the morning before the situation descended into chaos. OFM News also reached out to UFS spokesperson, Lacea Loader, for comment. At the time of publication, she was yet to respond.

Meanwhile, the South African Students Congress (Sasco) vows to continue to demonstrate at the campus until the institution comes to the party regarding their demands. Sasco has called on the University's management to drop charges against their Chairperson, extend registration, suspend academic activities until registration issues are sorted, and scrap mandatory Covid-19 vaccination certificates that authorise campus entry.
