'Unauthorised electricians play a role in cable theft'─── 08:53 Sun, 20 Feb 2022
In most cases where electricity cables are reported stolen in communities, unauthorised electricians have played a crucial role.
This is according to Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality's Electricity and Infrastructure MMC, Shashapa Motaung.
Speaking to OFM News about unauthorised electricians in communities, he alleges that they turn the electricity on and off to illegally create jobs for themselves.
"After cutting electricity off, they come back to steal the very same cables from the households that are in the dark," he adds.
Without hesitation, he said whoever is found loitering around the community with a step ladder to tamper with electricity poles, will be arrested with their tools.
