Police officers from the SAPS in Park Road, Bloemfontein, are on a manhunt for five gun-wielding men who allegedly robbed the MTN cell phone store in a mall on Friday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, five suspects entered the store on Friday morning and threatened workers.

He says these suspects then tied up workers with cable ties and robbed the store of cellular phones, laptops, and an undisclosed amount of money. Covane adds that the gun-wielding men fled the scene on foot and none of them has been apprehended. A case of business robbery has been opened at the Park Road Police Station.

“According to the security officer at Mimosa Mall, who is also the complainant in the case, five males stormed into the cell phone store at about 09:15 carrying firearms. They then threatened the store's workers and tied them with cable ties,” Covane further adds.

Meanwhile, the MTN central regional manager, Sunette Els, has told OFM News that no injuries were sustained. Post-trauma counselling has, however, been arranged for employees and customers involved in the incident.
