New appointment of acting City Manager interdicted─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:41 Fri, 11 Feb 2022
The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Mxolisi Dukwana, has successfully interdicted the newly elected, acting City Manager (CM) or Municipal Manager (MM) from assuming office at the Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality.
In a two-page judgment, the Free State High Court judge, Sharon Chesiwe, has ordered that Teboho Maine, who is the fourth respondent in a court motion brought by Dukwana, must be interdicted from assuming any responsibilities in the office of the CM. This judgment comes after the Mangaung council brought a motion to remove the former CM, Sello More, as the acting CM merely two to three days before his contract with the metro lapsed.
Removing More from the council with a motion was heavily criticised and this led to, amongst others, ANC councillors being scolded by the Mangaung ANC's Interim Regional Committee (IRC).

However, the court challenge brought by former acting Mangaung City Manager More is yet to be argued in court.

Meanwhile, when contacted for a comment following the new development, More said "the case will be argued on or before the 4th of March, but it means that all decisions taken by the council, including the appointment of the acting City Manager, are interdicted. A special council must be called to appoint a new acting City Manager".
Dukwana had brought an interdict against four respondents, including the Mangaung Metro, Speaker Stefani Lockman, the Mangaung Council, and Maine.
