Seasoned journalist to be laid to rest in NW | News Article

The family of a seasoned journalist in North West, Poloko Tau, who passed on last week Friday, has given an update regarding his funeral preparations.

Tau, who was a City Press features writer, will be laid to rest on Saturday at his home in Makgobistad (River Side). Ahead of his funeral service, however, Tau’s memorial service will be held on Thursday at the Johannesburg Country Club’s Rose Garden at 13:00. Due to Covid-19 protocols, only 100 industry peers, family members and friends will be accommodated.

OFM News previously reported that City Press said, according to Tau's younger brother, that the seasoned journalist passed on just before his 42nd birthday.

Tau wrote about the allegations of nepotism in the North West provincial government, which exposed how wives, children, and siblings of councillors at Ditsobotla were allegedly irregularly appointed or promoted. His death has left the journalism landscape shocked with many of his colleagues reeling after his passing.

His younger brother told City Press that “it is a difficult moment for the family as we are still trying to come to terms with what has just happened".

Meanwhile, the Premier of the North West, Kaobitsa Maape, is amongst many who have expressed sadness at the passing of Tau. “He cut his teeth in journalism in the early 2000s and his career spans close to two decades,” Maape said.
