Mangaung #MetroPolice debacle continues─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:00 Fri, 24 Dec 2021
An attempt by the Bloemfontein-based Manguang Metro Municipality to get rid of the controversial Metro Police Unit has suffered a huge setback.
This, as the Free State High Court dismissed its application to rescind the establishment of the metro.
A group of metro officials took the matter to the High Court following talks that their appointment was illegal.
The attempt to get rid of the metro police also comes at the backdrop of a strong warning by National Treasury against the establishment of the metro.

The municipality is yet to comment.
In a letter sent to the metro’s City Manager, Sello More, among others, treasury’s Malijeng Ngqaleni said the Metro Police Unit cannot be a priority, given the financial and service delivery performance of the municipality.
In a judgment against the Metro, More is ordered to furnish the court with an affidavit. This order wants to know why More should not be held liable for cost orders in his personal capacity.
