Disciplinary processes of Mahumapelo, Lenkopane to start afresh─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:08 Fri, 03 Sep 2021
The North West ANC’s Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC) has been ordered to re-run the disciplinary processes of former North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo, and Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL), Bitsa Lenkopane.
This as three members of the ANC's National Disciplinary Committee (NDC), including Tito Mboweni and Faith Muthambi, among others, agreed that the process that suspended Mahumapelo and Lenkopane's membership was irregular and set it aside.
The provincial committee now only has six months to finalise the disciplinary proceedings. In April 2021, the ANC's Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) initially suspended the membership of both Mahumapelo and Lenkopane for 5 years for allegedly putting the party into disrepute by encouraging former Potchefstroom-based JB Marks mayor, Kgotso Kumalo, not to abide by an instruction to step aside amidst his fraud and corruption case.
The decision by the NDC now means the matter will start afresh and is expected to be concluded by December 2021.
Mahumapelo has previously lashed out at some members of the IPC and accused them of being involved in the famous #SupraMustFall movement. One of those members includes the newly elected ANC premier candidate, Bushy Maape. Mahumapelo previously told OFM News that people had once contacted him to offer their sincere apology for being part of the movement which led to his resignation in 2018, when irate residents of Mahikeng took to the streets to protest about the alleged lack of service delivery.
He said some of these people were captured in a video confessing that they were not aware that the movement or the protest were meant to alienate him as the premier and chairperson of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
