NW set to address some housing issues─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:22 Thu, 20 May 2021

Residents in the Mahikeng Local Municipality will soon breathe a sigh of relief.
The Mahikeng Municipality and the Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs department are expected to hand over more than 1 400 title deeds to communities.
The municipality’s John Nkoane says the residents of Ward 33 will be amongst those receiving title deeds in efforts to bring them dignity and to address housing challenges experienced in the area. The province is amongst those that have in the past been challenged by service delivery protests with residents raising concerns over the lack of municipal services, and housing backlogs, amongst others.
Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has recently vowed to address housing challenges in the different provinces, including issues pertaining to mushrooming informal settlements, stating that housing issues are amongst the top of her department’s 2021/22 budget list.
Meanwhile, Nkoane in a statement confirms the Mahikeng Municipality, in conjunction with MEC Mmoloki Cwaile, will on Thursday hand over title deeds to the community of Extension 39 in Ward 33 of Mahikeng.
