Opposition calls for changes in troubled Mangaung | News Article

The DA in the Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State says more needs to be done to address service delivery issues.

According to the party’s David McKay, it is appalling that there is still a lack of service delivery despite the municipality having been placed under administration.

He says there is a complete breakdown in refuse collection and solid waste management at the landfill sites. McKay in a statement says they are concerned that refuse removal vehicles are not enough and are unable to carry the day-to-day capacity as only 6 of the 32 vehicles are allegedly operational.

The municipality recently made headlines when workers took to the streets to protest against city manager, Tankiso Mea, stating that he is one of the reasons why the municipality is in a financial rut and demands that he steps down.

Following the protests on April 9, the municipality pledged to address concerns raised by the workers including concerns over their working conditions.

The DA in a statement now says the municipality needs to take swift action in addressing service delivery issues.

“The DA can no longer endure the blatant disregard the residents of Mangaung are treated with. The poor excuses for lack of service delivery are no longer believed or accepted. Taxpaying residents have loyally been paying their taxes every month only to see it being misused and mal-administrated. Residents are not receiving any services for their taxes”.

Meanwhile, municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama, is yet to respond to OFM News’ inquiry.
