Senekal protestors' case postponed─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:38 Tue, 02 Mar 2021
The matter between the State versus André Pienaar and Stephanus Johannes Fourie at Senekal Magistrate's Court in the Free State was yet again postponed.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, says this is because Pienaar needs to undergo a mental health evaluation.
OFM News previously reported during Pienaar's bail hearing in October 2020 the court was informed he suffers from a bipolar mood disorder. Pienaar and Fourie were both arrested for their alleged involvement in a protest at the Senekal Magistrate's Court during the court appearance of two men accused of killing farm manager Brendin Horner.
The two face charges including attempted murder and public violence, which stem from the incident where a police van was overturned and allegedly set alight. Shuping says the matter was postponed to 7 May 2021.
Meanwhile, the case against the two murder accused, Sekwetja Mhlambi and Sekola Matlaletsa, was in January postponed to 30 March 2021 as the DNA analysis has not been completed.
The two are still in custody, awaiting the finalisation of the DNA analysis.
The two were apprehended by Senekal detectives in Paul Roux. They were arrested after Horner's body was discovered tied with a rope around his neck to a pole, as well as injuries to his head and face.
