Vaal taxi operators impounding vehicles─── 13:16 Wed, 18 Nov 2020
Vaal taxi operators taking part in a strike currently underway in Gauteng, are impounding private vehicles which are illegally operating as taxi's and carrying commuters.
As part of the strike, the Internal Taxi Association (ITA) is patrolling the various routes in the Vaal Triangle - impounding vehicles that are charging fees to stranded commuters (including learners).
The strike follows after the taxi operators felt neglected by the government after the taxi industry did not receive the Covid-19 relief fund.
One of the Vaal organisers spoke to OFM News on condition of anonymity, elaborating that their taxis will soon be repossessed by banks.
He adds this is after their business was negatively affected due to not operating during the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown period.
He concludes by saying it is unfortunate that Grade 12 learners – currently writing their end of year exams - are affected by the strike.
