The North West premier, Job Mokgoro, will on Thursday 5 December visit the family of yet another victim of a gruesome murder in the province.

Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says the visit to the Tshubi family in Khunotswane village outside Zeerust in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality comes after two of their family members were found murdered and dumped inside two pit latrines this past weekend. He says according to reports, two suspects have been arrested and one of them is believed to be a relative of the deceased.

Ngesi says the Provincial Government, through the Department of Social Development, has already provided trauma counselling, social relief of distress services and all the necessary intervention to the family.

Meanwhile, this is the second murder reported in the province after the 18-year-old Gomolemo Legae was raped, stabbed, doused with petrol and set alight by the 19-year-old Karabo Bahurutshe, who has since been arrested.

Bahurutshe appeared before the Mmabatho Local Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 5 December, where his bail application was postponed to February 21 of next year, after he abandoned his bail application. His court appearance follows after his arrest on Monday after his brother handed him over to the police following the murder of Legae in the early hours of Sunday.

He is alleged to have raped and stabbed Legae at least 25 times, after which he doused her with petrol before setting her alight. The gruesome murder has drawn much criticism, especially as it comes amidst the 16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. Ngesi says premier Mokgoro will visit the family today to pass condolences on behalf of the provincial government and the people of the province.
